Can children truly be converted? If so, how young? Some Christians think we should wait till they're older before evangelizing them. Others think salvation is too difficult a concept for a child younger than 12 to grasp. But the Bible has something to say on this subject, too, and our considerations on this complex topic will guide how we impact young souls—so why not investigate?

A friend recently told me that her feelings of discouragement were her fault; she simply needed to have more faith. She is only echoing the refrain many Christians have shouted over the years: discouragement, overwhelming sadness, the feeling of despair—all these are of the devil and have no place in a Christian’s life. Right?
Wrong. Dead wrong. “Good versus evil” is a kind of trope in older writing—especially Christian writing, where established moral boundaries are just about mandatory. The idea is that there are good guys and bad guys, and they ram against each other in an epic clash of wills. The good is holy and pure, the evil corrupt and complete in its depravity. Or so goes the trope.
I have occasionally heard Christian speakers tell us that God loves us because we are created in his image. That because we are his creation, we possess some inherent goodness or worth in his eyes. Are humans inherently valuable because we are made in the image of God?
